4A U7 How much?
Good afternoon, my dear teachers! I'm so glad to stand here to share my lesson plan with you. I really hope I can learn a lot by doing this kind of activities. Ok, Let’s go back to our business. I'll talk about my lesson from 6 following aspects: Analysis of teaching material, Analysis of students, Teaching and learning objectives, Teaching and learning methods, Teaching procedures, Blackboard design and Reflection of my lesson.
Analysis of teaching material
So let's kick off with the analysis of teaching material. A good teaching material not only provides students with language knowledge, but also provides students with unlimited space of thinking and expansion. Enlighten the wisdom of students. The lesson that I'm going to talk about is U7 How much? story time which comes from YL primary school English curriculum of grade 4. The main topic is about charity jumble sale. Within this whole situation, students will get to get to know how to sell things and buy things. In another words, asking for price.
Analysis of students
Besides the teaching material, students are the important part of our lesson. The new English curriculum standard clearly requires that teachers should always pay much attention on their communication, to give them adequate time to talk and express their thoughts and ideas. As for our young learners, there's one thing you can’t ignore that they are the beginner of English language learning. They just had 1 year of learning English. Their knowledge and skills are limited. But basic language knowledge and vocabulary have already rooted, they are interested in every new things and always curious and active. Considering about the features of language learners from Grade 4, an interesting and appropriate warmer is really needed.
Teaching and learning objectives
Based on the teaching material and students status, here comes the most important part: teaching and learning objectives. I set the following objectives. First, students can understand the general idea of the story. Second, students can understand, read and speak these words and expressions: shoe, sock, twenty, thirty, forty, fifty; Third, students can use the key sentences to ask for price, such as How much is it? How much are they? The last one is students will have the awareness of helping and giving after this lesson.
Teaching and learning methods
Base on the teaching materials and the level of our learns, in order to achieve the teaching and learning objectives, several teaching methods will be used: communicative approach, cooperative learning strategy, situational teaching method.
Teaching procedures
That brings us to the core of this lesson plan, teaching procedures. This teaching procedures will be demonstrated in this 3 steps: pre-reading, while-reading, post-reading. First of all, I’ll let students play a game called Feel the bag. Let them guess without knowing what it is in my bag. The purpose of this part is to activate students’ curiosity and enthusiasm.
During the period of while-reading, there are 3 main tasks for the students. Task 1, Watch and Answer. I’ll let the students to watch a cartoon and figure out the answer to the question Who will come to buy things? Then, the characters of the story will be revealed; Task 2, Read and Match. The question I give is What would they like? After reading the whole story for the first time, students can do a match with the people and goods that they would like; After that, we come to Task 3, Read and Circle. In the final part of the story, students should read the whole story again and circle the price of corresponding things. After those three parts, students can have a general idea of the story and preliminary use of key expressions and sentences.
Blackboard design
According to the form of this story, I decided to use the right blackboard to present the main structure or the story. The left one will be presented the key sentences.
Reflection
During the period of pre-reading, I should have made one or two exciting games to arouse students motivation. Such as Find the numbers, Magic Eyes or a simple song related to the topic.
Another mistake is about demonstration. I really should have given the demonstration before students get started. When I presented the lesson this Wednesday, I found that most of students have no idea about how to practice the chant I made for them and the last volunteer activity. So next time, I’ll really think about these details when I design my lesson.
So that’s my lesson plan. Thanks for listening. And I really hope I could improve a lot by learning from all of you and practising day by day.
